In situ, meteorological, navigational, physical and profile oceanographic data were collected, including AIR TEMPERATURE, CURRENT DIRECTION, CURRENT SPEED, CURRENT SPEED - EAST/WEST COMPONENT (U), CURRENT SPEED - NORTH/SOUTH COMPONENT (V), DEPTH - OBSERVATION, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, RELATIVE HUMIDITY, SALINITY, SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE, SIGMA-THETA, WATER TEMPERATURE, WIND DIRECTION and WIND SPEED from Moored Buoy at the TAO/TRITON Site 2S 125W (T2S125W) using GPS, anemometer, conductivity sensor, current meter, meteorological sensors, pressure sensors and thermistor from 2000-09-15 to 2015-09-06. These data were provided to one of the OceanSITES Data Assembly Centers (DAC). The DAC formatted this information into the OceanSITES file format and passed it on to the Global Data Assembly Centers (GDAC). OceanSITES is a worldwide system of long-term, open-ocean reference stations measuring dozens of variables and monitoring the full depth of the ocean from air-sea interactions down to the seafloor. It is a network of stations or observatories measuring many aspects of the ocean's surface and water column using, where possible, automated systems with advanced sensors and telecommunications systems, yielding high time resolution, often in real-time, while building a long record.

Shore-based belt transects were conducted at 1 to ~ 5 m depths at a total two (2) sites on the leeward coast (South Kohala district) of the Big Island (Hawaii Island) in the MHI during spring 2009. Twenty (20) randomly positioned transects were surveyed at each site in 2009; each transect was 50-m long x 2-m wide (100 m**2 area). Raw survey data consist of species-specific and size-specific (total length, TL, in cm) numerical counts of recruit (= 5 cm total length, TL) reef fishes encountered within transect boundaries.

Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps are an integral component in oil-spill contingency planning and assessment. They serve as a source of information in the event of an oil spill incident. ESI maps contain three types of information: shoreline habitats (classified according to their sensitivity to oiling), sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. Most often, this information is plotted on 7.5 minute USGS quadrangles, although in the Alaska ESI maps, USGS topographic maps at scales of 1:63,360 and 1:250,000 are used, and in other ESI maps, NOAA charts have been used as the base map. Collections of these maps, grouped by state or a logical geographic area, are published as ESI atlases. Digital data have been published for most of the U.S. shoreline, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20150117 - 20150119 with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution to support the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

NODC Accession 0130851 includes chemical, optical and other data collected aboard the MELVILLE during cruise MV1104 in the South Pacific Ocean from 2011-03-23 to 2011-04-23. These data include Attenuation/Transmission, CONDUCTIVITY, CURRENT SPEED - EAST/WEST COMPONENT (U), CURRENT SPEED - NORTH/SOUTH COMPONENT (V), DEPTH - BOTTOM, DEPTH - OBSERVATION, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, SALINITY, WATER TEMPERATURE and surface irradiance. The instruments used to collect these data include ADCP, CTD, GPS, PAR Sensor, echo sounder, oxygen meter and transmissometer. These data were collected by William Berelson of University of Southern California, and by University of California - San Diego; Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of Documenting N2 fixation in N deficient waters of the Eastern Tropical South Pacific. The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) submitted these data to NODC as part of the NSF sponsored Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program. The CTD data submitted by the originator represent the raw data suite. Processed versions of the data were generated by NODC. The ADCP data represent the raw and automated processed data set. Post processed quality assessed data are not available in this accession.

Remote Sensing Inc. distributes science quality wind velocity data from the SeaWinds instrument onboard NASA's QuikSCAT satellite. SeaWinds is a microwave scatterometer designed to measure surface winds over the global ocean. Wind velocity fields are provided in zonal, meridional, and modulus sets. The reference height for all wind velocities is 10 meters.

This dataset has 5-day Latent Heat Flux data from the TAO/TRITON (Pacific Ocean, http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/), RAMA (Indian Ocean, http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/rama/), and PIRATA (Atlantic Ocean, http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/pirata/) arrays of moored buoys which transmit oceanographic and meteorological data to shore in real-time via the Argos satellite system. These buoys are major components of the CLIVAR climate analysis project and the GOOS, GCOS, and GEOSS observing systems. 5-day data is an average of daily values collected during consecutive five day intervals. A minimum of 2 daily values are required to compute a 5-day average. This dataset contains realtime and delayed mode data (see the 'source' variable). These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.

The Oceanographic Survey in Support of Fishing off the Coast of Portugal (CAPEC) consists of several cruises to obtain, systemically, physical, chemical and biological seasonal data of the coastal area between Caminha and Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Its geographical limits lie between 10 .30 W, on the west coast, and the parallel 36 .15 N, on the South coast. The fourth cruise of the Oceanographic Survey in Support of Fishing off the Coast of Portugal, CAPEC IV, collected oceanographic data describing a summer situation. This survey was accomplished aboard the N. R. P. S. JORGE between July 19, and August 06, 1971.

To support a long-term NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) for sustainable management and conservation of coral reef ecosystems, from 20140325 to 20140518, reef fish assessment surveys were conducted, as a part of Rapid Ecological Assessments (REA), during the Pacific Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (RAMP) Cruise HA1401 in the Mariana Archipelago region by the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED) at the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC). During the cruise, 11 REA sites were surveyed at Sarigan in the Mariana Archipelago region. At each REA site, fish biologists entered the water and conducted a fine-scale (~700 m^2) and high degree of taxonomic resolution REA survey to assess and monitor species diversity, size distribution, and abundance of fish in shallow-water hard-bottom (less than 30 m) habitats. Reef fish assessment surveys were focused on cataloging the diversity (species richness), abundance (numeric density) and biomass (fish mass per unit area) of diurnally active reef fish assemblages. The stationary point count (SPC) method was used to quantify reef fish species. Two divers lay out a 30 m transect line, and position themselves at the 7.5 and 22.5 meter marks. The SPC biologist then records estimated size and abundance of all fish within a visually estimated 15-m diameter cylinder centered on the stationary diver (7.5-m radius, total area ~ 177m^2 per cylinder). The diver first spends 5 minutes identifying all fish species in the cylindrical area, then proceeds to count and estimate size (total length) for each in a series of "instantaneous" point counts or sweeps of the cylinder. Fish were identified at the species level, wherever possible. All reef-associated fish, including those in the water column, were surveyed. The survey time for each stationary point count survey was approximately 20 min and generally four stationary point count surveys (two per diver) were conducted at each fish REA site. After completing REA surveys, divers noted the presence, at the survey site, of any unusual fish species not counted during SPC counts, in order to facilitate species lists per location.

The NOAA WAVEWATCH III® hindcast dataset comprises output fields from the monthly WAVEWATCH III® hindcast model runs conducted at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. Each model run produces a collection of files containing gridded fields comprised of input and mean wave parameters such as the significant wave height, directions, frequencies etc. Once per month, a wave simulation is carried out using restart files from the previous month and forced by hindcast wind products for the entire month. The resulting output data are transferred to NODC on a monthly basis. NODC assembles the series of files into monthly accessions to facilitate archival retention and public access. The fields are encoded in the standard GRIdded Binary version 2 (GRIB2) file format. Wave spectral data summaries are included, as well as detailed spectra at selected locations, in tabular text format. Nine different sets of output fields, corresponding to nine different grids used in the numerical simulations, are included. These include a global grid, as well as regional and coastal grids covering much of the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans.

This project is a cooperative effort between the National Ocean Service, National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment, BAE Systems Spectral Solutions LLC, and Analytical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLC. IKONOS and Quickbird imagery was purchased to support the Pacific Islands Geographic Information System (GIS) project and the National Ocean Service's (NOS) coral mapping activities. One-meter panchromatic and four-meter multi-spectral data were purchased for each study area. The enhanced spectral resolution of multispectral imagery and control of bandwidths of multispectral data yield an advantage over color aerial photography particularly when coral health and time series analysis of coral reef community structure are of interest. The IKONOS and Quickbird imagery was processed to minimize atmospheric and water column effects. Photointerpreters can accurately and reliably delineate boundaries of features in the imagery as they appear on the computer monitor using a software interface such as the Habitat Digitizer.
