Bathymetry for Albemarle Sound was derived from twenty-five surveyscontaining 187,065 soundings. Two older, less accurate, overlapping surveyswere omitted before tinning. The average separation between soundings was 115meters. There was one survey in the west that dated from 1874. Theremaining twenty-four surveys used dated from 1917 to 1942. The total rangeof sounding data was 0.7 meters to - 14.3 meters at mean low water. A meanhigh water value of 0.2 meters was assigned to the shoreline. Eight pointswere found that were not consistent with the surrounding data. These wereremoved prior to tinning. DEM grid values outside the shoreline (onland) were assigned null values (-32676).Albemarle Sound has forty-nine 7.5 minute DEMs and four one degreeDEMs. The 1 degree DEMs were generated from the higher resolution 7.5minute DEMs which covered the estuary. A Digital Elevation Model(DEM) contains a series of elevations ordered from south to northwith the order of the columns from west to east. The DEM isformatted as one ASCII header record (A- record), followed by aseries of profile records (B- records) each of which include a shortB-record header followed by a series of ASCII integer elevations(typically in units of 1 centimeter) per each profile. The lastphysical record of the DEM is an accuracy record (C-record).The 7.5-minute DEM (30- by 30-m data spacing) is cast on theUniversal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projection. It provides coveragein 7.5- by 7.5-minute blocks. Each product provides the samecoverage as a standard USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle but the DEMcontains over edge data. Coverage is available for many estuaries ofthe contiguous United States but is not complete.

Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps are an integral component in oil-spill contingency planning and assessment. They serve as a source of information in the event of an oil spill incident.ESI maps contain three types of information: shoreline habitats (classified according to their sensitivity to oiling), sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. Most often, this information is plotted on 7.5 minute USGS quadrangles, although in the Alaska ESI maps, USGS topographic maps at scales of 1:63,360 and 1:250,000 are used, and in other ESI maps, NOAA charts have been used as the base map. Collections of these maps, grouped by state or a logical geographic area, are published as ESI atlases. Digital data have been published for most of the U.S. shoreline, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20110309 - 20110311. The images were acquired with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution than the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

Bathymetry for St. Andrew/St. Simons Sounds was derived from fifteen surveyscontaining 87,618 soundings. Two older, overlapping, less accurate surveys wereomitted before tinning the data. The average separation between soundingswas 44 meters. Fourteen of the surveys used dated from 1934 to 1937. Theremaining survey, located in the northeast, dated from 1954. The totalrange of sounding data was 1.5 meters to -22.9 meters at mean low water.Mean high water values between 2.0 and 2.4 meters were assigned to theshoreline. Fifteen points were found that were not consistent with thesurrounding data. These were removed prior to tinning. DEM grid valuesoutside the shoreline (on land) were assigned null values (-32676).St. Andrew/St. Simons Sounds have ten 7.5 minute DEMs and two onedegree DEMs. The 1 degree DEMs were generated from the higherresolution 7.5 minute DEMs which covered the estuary. This data set provides the lidar elevations for four Oregon State Parks. The four state parks are Clyde Holliday (766 square acres) in Grant County, Cove Palisades (15,220 square acres) in Jefferson County, Lake Owyhee (2496 square acres) in Malheur County, and White River Falls (2333 square acres) in Wasco County. This data set was collected on May 5, 6, 11, 31, and June 1, 2011. The lidar data are multiple return and are classified as unclassified and bare earth. The LiDAR survey used a Leica ALS50 Phase II sensor in a Cessna Caravan 208B. The sensor operates with Automatic Gain Control (AGC) for intensity correction. Depending on acquisition day, weather, and terrain, the Leica system was set to acquire 105,000 (120,000 on 6/1/11) laser pulses per second (i.e. 105-120 kHz pulse rate) and flown at 900 (700 on 6/1/11) meters above ground level (AGL), capturing a scan angle of plus or minus 14 degrees from nadir. These settings were developed to yield points with an average native pulse density of greater than or equal to 8 pulses per square meter over terrestrial surfaces. It is not uncommon for some types of surfaces (e.g. dense vegetation or water) to return fewer pulses than the laser originally omitted. These discrepancies between the native and delivered density will vary depending on terrain, land cover, and the prevalence of water bodies. Watershed Sciences, Inc. collected the LiDAR and created this data set for Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) Product. The images were acquired from a nominal altitude of 5,000 feet above ground level (AGL), using an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). Imagery products are true color (prefix C) and infrared (prefix R) images. The IR images were acquired with a 850 nm cut on filter. Images have been orthorectified and mosaiced to produce a seamless data set.

Bathythermograph data were collected from the HUMBOLDT within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station C (5245N 0350W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 01 August 1966 to 27 August 1966. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.
