This dataset contains a comma-delimited ASCII XYZ text file with easting, northing, and depth in meters values for the bathymetry of selected portions of seafloor around St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John in the US Virgin Islands, derived from data collected in 2005. XYZ values are derived from a 20m resolution gridding process.NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in the US Virgin Islands from 2/1/05 to 2/12/05. Data was acquired with a pole-mounted Reson 8101 ER multibeam echosounder (240 kHz) and processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS v5.4 software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 20, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. A comma delimited ASCII XYZ file was then exported from the BASE surface.The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

Data from Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED), NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) Subsurface Temperature Recorders (STR) provide a time series of water temperature at coral reef sites. Data is typically collected at 1800 second intervals for a duration of 2 years using a SBE39 Temperature Recorder (Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com). When a STR is recovered, a new one is typically deployed in the same place. Time series data combining multiple deployments from a given site may also be available. Physical, meteorological, and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS in the TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S) from 01 January 1988 to 31 December 1988. Data was submitted by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) as part of the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) project. Data were obtained from an Atlas mooring and parameters include surface temperature, wind direction components, sea surface temperature, and water temperature at 10 discrete depths to 500 meters.

This data set contains biological resource data for seagrass habitats in Southeast Alaska. Vector polygons in this data set represent locations of seagrass concentration areas. Species-specific abundance, seasonality, status, life history, and source information are stored in relational data tables (described below) designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer.This data set comprises a portion of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data for Southeast Alaska. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.

Meteorological, oceanographic, wave spectra, and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS in the North Atlantic Ocean and other locations. Data were collected by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) from 01 August 1989 to 13 August 1989. Data were processed by NODC to the standard NODC F291-Meteorology, Oceanography, and Wave Spectra from Buoys format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f291.html. Links to digital data are not available at this time. An analog file is available from NODC user services. The F291 format is used to report meteorological, oceanographic, and wave spectra data from NDBC moored buoys and fixed land stations. The format contains thirteen data record types to: 1) Identify the buoy position and other descriptive information; 2) report the meteorological measurements; 3) report wave energy spectra and wave direction; 4) report subsurface physical, biological and chemical oceanographic measurements; and 5) report detailed information on continuously measured wind speed and direction. Each record is 120 characters in length, sorted by station and record type. Record type is omitted where data defined in that type and not measured. The first nine columns for all records are to be used for file type (columns 1-3) and file identifier (columns 4-9). The file identifier, assigned by the originator, is a unique originator id for each data submission. After submission, the NODC reassigns to this field a unique and NODC identifier for internal use.

Migratory bird and other data were collected from the Beaufort/Simpson Lagoon from 01 June 1977 to 05 September 1978. Data were collected by the Alaska Research Associates and LGL LTD as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP). Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F038 Migratory Sea Bird Watch format. Full format description is available from the NODC homepage at www.nodc.noaa.gov/. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F038 format contains data from field observations of migratory bird species made at fixed offshore positions. These data are collected to provide information about migratory routes and breeding locales of principal marine bird species. Position, date, start and end times, elapsed time, distance from shore, platform type, counting method and sampling technique are reported for each series of observations. Environmental information may include meteorological and sea surface conditions, ice cover, and tide height and trend. Species information may include age, sex, color, plumage, molt, behavior, number of individuals and number of species.

Towed-diver surveys (aka. Towboard surveys) are conducted by the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED) of the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) as part of biennial Pacific Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (RAMP) Cruises. These cruises support NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) long-term goals for sustainable management and conservation of coral reef ecosystems. 19 towboard surveys (45.504 km in length), were conducted at Guam Island in the Marianas Archipelago from 12 - 22 May 2007 as part of RAMP Cruise HI0702. Towboard surveys are a good method for obtaining a general description of large reef areas, assessing the status of low-density populations of large-bodied reef fish, large-scale disturbances (e.g., bleaching), general distribution and abundance patterns of macro-invertebrates (e.g., COT, giant clams), and for assessing trends in these populations and metrics. A pair of scuba divers (1 fish and 1 benthic diver) are towed 60 m behind a small survey launch at a speed of 1-2 knots and a depth of approximately 15m. Each survey is 50 min long, covers about 2 km of habitat, and is divided into ten 5-minute survey segments. The fish diver records, to the lowest possible taxon, all large-bodied reef fishes (>50cmTL) seen within 5m either side and 10m in front of the towboard. Length of each individual is estimated to the nearest cm. The fish towboard is also outfitted with a forward-facing digital video camera to record the survey swath. The benthic diver records percent cover of coral and macroalgae, estimates benthic habitat type and complexity, and censuses a suite of benthic macroinvertebrates including Crown of Thorns sea stars and sea urchins. The benthic towboard is equipped with a downward-facing digital still camera which images the benthos at 15 second intervals. These images are analyzed for percent cover of coral, algae, and other benthic components. Both towboards are equipped with SEABIRD SBE-39 temperature/depth sensors set to record at 5 second intervals. Latitude and longitude of each survey track is recorded at 15 second intervals using a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver onboard the tow boat. A layback algorithm is applied to more accurately map the position of the divers with respect to the reef environment. This algorithm calculates the position of the divers based on the position of the tow boat taking into account the length of the tow rope, the depth of the divers, and the curvature of the survey track. This metadata applies to the fish biomass observations.

NODC Accession 0106732 includes profile, undulating profile, biological and physical data collected aboard the OCEANUS during cruises OC340 and OC343 in the North Atlantic Ocean from 1999-03-30 to 1999-06-30. These data include TEMPERATURE, FLUORESCENCE, LIGHT TRANSMISSION, SIGMA-T, SALINITY, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, SIGMA-THETA and Potential temperature (theta). The instruments used to collect these data include Undulating towed profiler and CTD. These data were collected by Jack Barth of Oregon State University and Dave Hebert of University of Rhode Island as part of GB. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NODC on 2013-04-25. The following is the text of the abstract provided by BCO-DMO: The seasoar is a towed, undulating vehicle which records CTD and other data. The system records SeaBird CTD data at 24 hz, and it had other sensors on the A/D channels. The seasoar gets towed along different tracklines to map out various survey areas. Each time the seasoar is deployed and recovered is one "tow", and each of the cruises have a number of tows. The Oregon Department of Geology & Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) contracted with Watershed Sciences, Inc. to collect high resolution topographic lidar data for multiple areas within the State of Oregon. The areas for lidar collection have been designed as part of a collaborative effort of state, federal, and local agencies in order to meet a wide range of project goals. The Medford study area was collected April 29 - May 12, 2009 and covers a portion of Jackson County. The total flown area covers 380 square miles, or 242,915 acres. This data set consists of bare earth and unclassified points. There are approximately 8 points per square meter over terrestrial surfaces. In some areas of heavy vegetation or forest cover, there may be relatively few ground points in the lidar data. Elevation values for open water surfaces are not valid elevation values because few lidar points are returned from water surfaces. Lidar intensity values were also collected.

Current and other data were collected from meters attached to fixed platforms in the Gulf of Alaska by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). Data were collected as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP) from 13 May 1976 to 08 June 1977. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F015 Current Meter Components format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f015.html. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F015 format contains time series measurements of ocean currents. These data are obtained from current meter moorings and represent the Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed point and measure flow past a sensor. Position, bottom depth, sensor depth and meter characteristics are reported for each station. The data record includes values of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components at specified date and time. Current direction is defined as the direction toward which the water is flowing with positive directions east and north. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10 - 15 minute time intervals. Water temperature, pressure and conductivity or salinity may also be reported. A text record is available for optional comments.
