Temperature profile, nutrients, and other data were collected using bottle, CTD, and XBT casts from the CHOFU MARU in the Northwest Pacific Ocean. Data were collected from 16 January 1993 to 11 June 1995.

Meteorological, oceanographic, wave spectra, and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS in the North Atlantic and other locations. Data were collected by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) in support of the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) project from 01 July 1987 to 21 July 1987. Data were processed by NODC to the standard NODC F291-Meteorology, Oceanography, and Wave Spectra from Buoys format. An analog file is available from NODC user services. The F291 format is used to report meteorological, oceanographic, and wave spectra data from NDBC moored buoys and fixed land stations. The format contains thirteen data record types to: 1) Identify the buoy position and other descriptive information; 2) report the meteorological measurements; 3) report wave energy spectra and wave direction; 4) report subsurface physical, biological and chemical oceanographic measurements; and 5) report detailed information on continuously measured wind speed and direction. Each record is 120 characters in length, sorted by station and record type. Record type is omitted where data defined in that type and not measured. The first nine columns for all records are to be used for file type (columns 1-3) and file identifier (columns 4-9). The file identifier, assigned by the originator, is a unique originator id for each data submission. After submission, the NODC reassigns to this field a unique and NODC identifier for internal use.

Bathythermograph data were collected from the HAMILTON within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station C (5245N 03530W), D (4400N 04100W), and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 27 June 1973 to 28 July 1973. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instrument. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles at depths of about 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Cruise information, position, date, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT data file, in which temperature values are recorded at uniform 5m intervals, the XBT Data File contains temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths are at a minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to record the temperature curve to an acceptable degree of accuracy. On output, however, the user may request temperature values either at inflection points or interpolated to uniform depth increments.

Pressure gauge and other data were collected from a fixed platform from 05 November 1975 to 27 September 1976. Data were collected by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP). Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F017 Pressure Gauge Data format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f017.html. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F017 format contains time series measurements of seawater pressure from anchored or bottom-mounted sensors. Measurements of variations at depth of seawater pressure provide information on tidal and storm flows, ocean circulation, and other phenomena that cause changes in sea surface elevation or slope and that can be detected from their pressure signature. Position, bottom depth, and gauge depth are reported for each station. The data record comprises values of total pressure at specified date and time. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at time intervals of 10-15 minutes. Seawater temperature may also be reported. Comments may be reported in a text record.

Zooplankton data were collected using zooplankton net casts in the TOGA Area of Pacific Ocean from THOMAS G. THOMPSON. Data were collected from 03 February 1992 to 21 October 1992 by Skidaway Institute of Oceanography with support from Joint Global Ocean Flux Study / Equatorial Pacific Basin Study (JGOFS/EQPAC) project.

The Integrated Science Data Management (ISDM) office processes oceanographic profiles reported for the world oceans in near real-time from the Global Telecommunications System (GTS) for the Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Program (GTSPP). These data also support the activities of the Ship-of-Opportunity Programme Implementation Panel (SOOPIP) and the WOCE Upper Ocean Thermal Program (WOCE UOT).
