Popis

Visual surveys for cetaceans were conducted on the eastern Bering Sea shelf along transect lines, in association with the AFSC’s echo integration trawl surveys for walleye pollock. Surveys in 2000 and 2004 were from early June to early July, the survey in 2002 was from early June to late July, and the survey in 1999 was from early July to early August. Searches for cetaceans were conducted from the flying bridge of the NOAA ship Miller Freeman at a platform height of 12 m above the sea surface and survey speed of 18.5 22.0 km/h (10 12 kts). North south transect lines were spaced 37 km apart and defined by the historical acoustic survey for walleye pollock. Insufficient funding precluded including cetacean observers on all legs except in 2002. See Friday et al. 2012. Cetacean distribution and abundance in relation to oceanographic domains on the eastern Bering Sea shelf: 1999-2004 (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0967064512000100).

Popis

This report summarizes the results of the first Environmental Standards and Procedures (UES) inventory of endangered species and wildlife resources at United States Army Kwajalein Atoll (USAKA), which was conducted in 1996. The primary objective of the inventory was to document the presence and general distribution of terrestrial and marine species of concern (SOCs) and to record observations on the overall condition of their habitats. Terrestrial SOCs included certain migratory seabirds, shorebirds, and waterfowl. Important terrestrial habitats included Pisonia, Pemphis, and mixed broadleaf forests; salt ponds; and seabird and shorebird breeding and loafing sites. Marine SOCs included certain marine mammals, sea turtles, corals, sponges, and mollusks. Important marine habitats included lagoon, interislet, and seaward reef flats and slopes; reef passes; lagoon floors; seagrass beds; reef quarry pits; and intertidal zones.

NODC Accession 0131861 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, physical, profile and time series data logged by the Scientific Computer System (SCS) aboard the NOAA Ship Henry B. Bigelow in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2015-08-12 to 2015-08-21. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel aboard the ship submitted these data and associated metadata to NODC. In addition, NODC Accession 0131861 contains supplementary cruise-level metadata, which OMAO personnel logged in the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL). OMAO and NODC personnel developed the automated process to archive these data under the auspices of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (NOAA R2R) program.

NODC Accession 0115199 includes profile, underway - surface, discrete sample, biological, physical and chemical data collected aboard the RANGE RECOVERER, THOMAS G. THOMPSON and WECOMA during cruises R0208, T0205, W0005A and W0008 in the North Pacific Ocean from 2000-05-30 to 2002-08-19. These data include Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), AMMONIUM, CHLOROPHYLL C, FLUORESCENCE, NITRATE, fucoxanthin, SALINITY, NITRITE, BACTERIA, CAROTENOIDS - PLANT, PHAEOPIGMENTS, Synechococcus, diatom, PHYTOPLANKTON, NITRATE + NITRITE CONTENT (CONCENTRATION), WATER TEMPERATURE, SILICATE, Diadinoxanthin, HPLC PIGMENTS, CHLOROPHYLL A, PHOSPHATE, Eukaryote, Violaxanthin, monadoxanthin, CHLOROPHYLL B and Alloxan (or alloxantin). The instruments used to collect these data include CTD, fluorometer, Optical Spectrometer, Fast Repetition Rate Fluorometer and Slowdrop optical profiler / CTD. These data were collected by Ricardo Letelier of Oregon State University as part of NEP. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NODC on 2013-10-30. The following is the text of the abstract provided by BCO-DMO: Phytoplankton, HPLC, flow cytometry, and nutrient data were collected by SLOWDROP optical profilers, underway, and CTD's. SLOWDROP optical profilers provided high resolution vertical profiles of temperature, salinity, and density along with bio-optical properties. The underway component focused on the assessment of the spatial and temporal variability in phytoplankton biomass and physiology. Discrete samples for chlorophyll fluorometric determinations, pigment analyis, partical absorption, and nutrients were collected by CTD cast.

This dataset consists of video transect images (TIF files) from CRAMP surveys taken in 2000 at 23 sites, some of which had multiple depths. Estimates of substrate type, rugosity, species type, and percent coverage were provided to the NOAA data system within a separate data set. The video images are important for future researchers to resolve any question about how the image data were interpreted for the quantitative database, to provide the opportunity to re-analyze the images using other methods, and to return to the same locations for future comparisons.

Diaries and Journals containing weather information in a non-tabular format. Records date from 1735 through the early 20th century. Much of the weather and climate data recorded by the founding fathers of this country (Washington, Jefferson and Franklin to name a few) were archived in original manuscripts, then microfilmed and stored at the National Archive and Records Administration (NARA). Those records available from NARA on microfilm have been imaged and placed on the EV2 system. To date, there are more than 42 million of those images on-line. These colonial diaries and data are a treasure trove to the climatologist seeking data on climate of the 19th century.
