These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.

This dataset contains a unified ESRI Grid with 1x1 meter cell size representing the slope (in degrees) of El Seco, a selected portion of seafloor east of Vieques Island, derived from data collected in March and April 2009. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Branch, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data around Vieques Island from 3/26/09 to 4/2/09. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 multibeam echosounder (95 kHz) for water depths greater than 75 meters, and with a moon pool flange-mounted Reson 7125 multibeam echosounder (dual frequecy, 200/400 kHz) for water depths of less than 75 meters. It was processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 20 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. An ASCII XYZ file was exported from the BASE surface and opened in ESRI ArcMap 9.x as an XY event. Then the ArcToolbox conversion tool 'Feature to Raster' was used to generate the final ESRI Grid. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

Data from Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED), NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) Sea Surface Temperature (SST) Buoys provide a time series of surface water temperature at coral reef sites. The SST buoy (Model OTR-200 B solar-rechargeable buoy, Ocean Trek Research (OTR), www.oceantrekresearch.com) with external temperature recorder (Sea-Bird Model SBE39, Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com) telemeters hourly temperature and daily GPS position and buoy status data in Near Real Time (NRT) via an INMARSAT D+ SAT101 Satellite Modem and internally records higher resolution temperature data from the SBE39, typically at a 600 second sampling interval for a duration of 2 years. This record refers to the internally recorded (high resolution in situ) SBE39 temperature data. When a SST buoy is recovered, a new one is typically deployed in the same place. Time series data combining multiple deployments from a given site may also be available. Please contact CRED with any questions. NOAA CoastWatch distributes near real time wind stress data in zonal, meridional, modulus, and wind stress curl sets. This data begins with wind velocity measurements from the ASCAT instrument onboard EUMETSAT's METOP satellite. ASCAT is a microwave scatterometer designed to measure surface winds over the global ocean. NOAA CoastWatch processes wind velocity to wind stress and wind stress curl.

THIS DATA SET CONSISTS OF THE RESULTS OF THE NEARSHORE SEDIMENT Nearshore Sediment Transport Study at Leadbetter Beach, Santa Barbara, California. These data from 28 tapes in unformatted binary format are available as a product offered by NODC in its current data storage format. A description of the project can be found in "Report on Data from the Nearshore Sediment Transport" IMR reference number 80-5, Scripps Institute of Oceanography. The data are divided into 28 physical tapes with several logical tape numbers (LT) within the tapes. SB1-SB24 (LT 1) describes the results of the Scripps Shelf and Shore data (SAS) which are field measurements of surf zone energetics under the direction of R.T. Guza and E.B. Thornton (L00907). L00908, represents tapes SB24 (LT2-13) and SB 25 (LT 1-7). These are the results of the sediment transport studies (tracer experiments, local bed response and ancillary surveys) under the direction of D.L. Inman and R.E. Flick. L00909 - represents tape SB 25 (LT8-14).

Wind wave spectra and meteorological data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS from the East/West coasts of US, North Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of Alaska, Great Lakes, and other locations. Data were collected from buoys with surface and subsurface sensors from 01 April 2002 to 30 April 2002. Data were submitted by the National Data Buoy Center (NODC). Station identifier, position, date, time, sampling duration and sampling rate are reported for each series of measurements. Reported meteorological parameters may include air temperature and pressure, dew point, wind speed and direction, wind gust, visibility, precipitation and solar radiation. Ocean surface data may include water temperature and salinity (or conductivity), significant wave height and steepness. Subsurface temperature, salinity, conductivity, pressure, and east and north current components may also be reported. Wave data may be reported as spectral density values or (for directional spectra) as co- and quad-spectra or angular Fourier coefficients.
