OCM plans to collect aerial imagery, acoustic backscatter, bathymetry, and sediment samples to support development of benthic habitat maps/data. These data will be collected under specifications designed to facilitate deriving substrate character and biotic communities. Projects could take place anywhere within US coastal waters but will most likely take place in the Great Lakes and/or on the West Coast.

Oceanographic station data were collected from the CAMPBELL within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station B (5630N 05100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 19 February 1970 to 08 March 1970. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Station Data II Output Format (SD2). Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/sd2.html. The SD2 format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

Belt transects along 3 consecutively-placed, 25m transect lines were surveyed as part of Rapid Ecological Assessments conducted at 13 sites at Pearl and Hermes Atoll in the NW Hawaiian Islands (NWHI) during 1 September - 4 October 2006 in the NOAA Hi'ialakai (HI0611) Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (RAMP) Cruise. Raw survey data included species level abundance estimates.

The Midwater Assessment and Conservation Engineering (MACE) program of NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), conducted an acoustic-trawl (AT) stock assessment survey in the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) during late winter of 2013 to estimate the distribution and abundance of walleye pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus). The survey areas included the Shumagin Islands area (consisting of Shumagin Trough, Stepovak Bay, Renshaw Point, Unga Strait, and West Nagai Strait), Sanak Trough, and Morzhovoi Bay (February 26 to March 3, 2013). The survey was conducted aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson, a 64 meter stern trawler equipped with acoustic and oceanographic instrumentation in addition to biological sampling capabilities. The primary instrumentation for the survey was a Simrad EK60 split-beam echosounder system utilizing five frequencies (18, 38, 70, 120, and 200 kHz) and a Simrad ME70 multibeam echosounder, with the ME70 trigger synchronized to the EK60 system.

The Ocean Data Platform (ODP) is placed on the sea floor to measure water current profiles, waves, temperature and conductivity. The ODP consists of an upward looking acoustic doppler current profiler (ADP) (SonTek/YSI ADP, www.ysi.com) and a temperature/conductivity recorder (Model SBE37-SM, Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com). This metadata record refers to the SBE37-SM dataset. When an ODP is recovered, another one is typically deployed in the same place. Time series data combining multiple deployments from a given site may also be available. Please contact CRED with any questions.
