Meteorological, oceanographic, wave spectra, and other data were collected from FIXED PLATFORMS in the North Atlantic and other locations. Data were collected by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) in support of the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) project from 01 February 1988 to 25 February 1988. Data were processed by NODC to the standard NODC F291-Meteorology, Oceanography, and Wave Spectra from Buoys format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f291.html. Links to digital data are not available at this time. An analog file is available from NODC user services. The F291 format is used to report meteorological, oceanographic, and wave spectra data from NDBC moored buoys and fixed land stations. The format contains thirteen data record types to: 1) Identify the buoy position and other descriptive information; 2) report the meteorological measurements; 3) report wave energy spectra and wave direction; 4) report subsurface physical, biological and chemical oceanographic measurements; and 5) report detailed information on continuously measured wind speed and direction. Each record is 120 characters in length, sorted by station and record type. Record type is omitted where data defined in that type and not measured. The first nine columns for all records are to be used for file type (columns 1-3) and file identifier (columns 4-9). The file identifier, assigned by the originator, is a unique originator id for each data submission. After submission, the NODC reassigns to this field a unique and NODC identifier for internal use.

Popis

Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts from the SANTA CRUZ and other platforms from 17 October 1975 to 28 December 1975. Data were collected by Grace Prudential Lines and other institutions as part of the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''''inflection points'''') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of 450 m or 760 m. Special instruments permitted measurements to 1830 m.

Popis

The NOAA Hypoxia Watch project provides near-real-time, web-based maps of dissolved oxygen near the sea floor over the Texas-Louisiana continental shelf during a period that extends from early June to mid-July. The NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service Mississippi Laboratories at Pascagoula and Stennis Space Center and the NOAA National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) at Stennis Space Center began the Hypoxia Watch project in 2001. Scientists aboard the NOAA Research Vessel Oregon II measure seawater properties, such as water temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, and dissolved oxygen at each of approximately 240 locations as the Oregon II cruises the waters south of Pascagoula, MS and then makes its way from Brownsville, Texas, to the mouth of the Mississippi River. A scientist aboard the ship processes the measurements from electronic dissolved oxygen sensors, checks the measurements periodically with chemical analyses of the seawater, then sends the data by e-mail to NCDDC at Stennis Space Center approximately every three to five days. Physical Scientists at NCDDC transform the dissolved oxygen measurements into contour maps, which identify areas of low oxygen, or hypoxia. During the 6-week cruise, as the data is received from the ship, NCDDC generates new maps and immediately publishes them on the web. The first map will usually cover an area off the Mississippi coast, successive maps will add areas of the continental shelf from Brownsville to Galveston, and the final map will usually cover the entire Texas-Louisiana-Mississippi coast. Maps are published every three to five days from approximately June 10 to July 20.

Popis

The Oregon Department of Geology & Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) contracted with Watershed Sciences, Inc. to collect high resolution topographic lidar data for multiple areas within the State of Oregon. The areas for lidar collection have been designed as part of a collaborative effort of state, federal, and local agencies in order to meet a wide range of project goals. The Camp Creek study area was collected December 3 - 10, 2008 and covers a portion of northeastern Malheur County. The total flown area covers 261 square miles, or 167,324 acres. This data set consists of bare earth and unclassified points. There are approximately 8 points per square meter over terrestrial surfaces. In some areas of heavy vegetation or forest cover, there may be relatively few ground points in the lidar data. Elevation values for open water surfaces are not valid elevation values because few lidar points are returned from water surfaces. Lidar intensity values were also collected.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has the statutory mandate to collect hydrographic data in support of nautical chart compilation for safe navigation and to provide background data for engineers, scientific, and other commercial and industrial activities. Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

Popis

Intertidal organism and other data were collected in the Gulf of Alaska from the MONTAGUE as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP). Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) from 12 September 1974 to 15 October 1974. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F30 Inter-tidal Organisms and Habitats format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f030.html. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F30 format is used for data from field sampling of marine organisms in intertidal or subtidal habitats. The data are collected to provide information about species abundance and distribution. Data from each observation may include: cruise and station information such as vessel name, senior scientist, position, date, and time; environmental conditions such as surface temperature and salinity, wind speed and direction, and sea state; sediment and habitat descriptors; and species identification and organism counts and measurements. Data may be reported for either individual or composite samples. A text record is available for reporting comments.
