This data set contains vector lines and polygons representing coastal hydrography used in the creation of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) for Long Island, New York. The HYDRO data layer contains all annotation used in producing the atlas. The annotation features are categorized into two subclasses in order to simplify the mapping and quality control procedures: SOC, for socioeconomic features, and HYDRO, for water features. This data set comprises a portion of the ESI data for Long Island. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has the statutory mandate to collect hydrographic data in support of nautical chart compilation for safe navigation and to provide background data for engineers, scientific, and other commercial and industrial activities. Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

Popis
The HOT program makes repeated observations of the physics, biology and chemistry at a site approximately 100 km north of Oahu, Hawaii. Two stations are visited about once a month: Kahe Point (Station 1: 21.34N, 158.27W) and Station ALOHA (Station 2: 22.75N, 158W). Various other stations are made intermittently in support of similar research objectives or mooring deployments. HOT CTD data are collected using a SeaBird CTD 9-11 Plus with dual sensors at the maximum sampling rate of 24 samples per second (24 Hz). They are screened for errors and processed to 2-dbar averages. Starting in 2006, the percent transmission field was replaced with nitrate in the dataset. HOT 207 cruise was cut short due to a problem with the winch. No data are available.

Chemical, physical and profile oceanographic data were collected aboard the HENRY B. BIGELOW in the Gulf of Mexico from 2010-08-13 to 2010-08-22 in response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill event on April 20, 2010, by the Subsurface Monitoring Unit (SMU), which consisted of multiple government and corporate agencies. These data include CDOM fluorescence, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, hydrostatic pressure, salinity, sound velocity, temperature and water density. The instruments used to collect these data included CTD, fluorometer and oxygen meter along with other physical sampling devices. More specific information about each data set is located in their individual metadata records. This data set also contains products created for use in real time analysis and decision support. These products may include charts, graphs, maps, plots, and GIS formatted data files. The CTD data underwent preliminary quality assurance and control procedures at the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC). Cruise level information consisting of data management documents, cruise reports and plans, videos and pictures, and other miscellaneous documentation were gathered by the data managers. Popis
This lidar point data set was collected during low tide conditions along an approximately 500-700 meter wide strip of the Southern California coastline within an area extending south from Long Beach to the US/Mexico border. Data were collected in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties from south of the Downtown Long Beach Marina in Long Beach, California to north of Oceanside on March 28, 2007 between 18:54 and 22:01 UTC. Data were collected in Orange and San Diego counties from south of Dana Point to south of the United States-Mexico border near Playas de Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico on March 29, 2007 between 19:08 and 22:00 UTC. Data set features include water, beach, cliffs, and top of cliffs. The all points data set contains the complete point cloud of first and last return elevation and laser intensity measurements recorded during the spring 2007 airborne lidar survey conducted semi-annually by the University of Texas at Austin for the Southern California Beach Processes Study. The data set was generated by the processing of laser range, scan angle, and aircraft attitude data collected using an Optech Inc. Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (ALTM) 1225 system and geodetic quality Global Positioning System (GPS) airborne and ground-based receivers. Instrument settings and parameters during survey were: Nominal on-ground beam diameter: 25 cm Pulse rate: 25 kHz Maximum number of returns recorded: 2 Minimum separation between detected returns from a single pulse: 4.3 m Laser wavelength: 1064 nm Frequency of GPS sampling: 1 Hz Frequency of IMU sampling: 50 Hz; Scan angle: +/- 20 degrees Nominal height of instrument above ground: 1100 m Nominal single-swath pulse density: 2 m Nominal aggregate pulse density: 0.75 Nature of vertical control: Kinematic and static GPS points

Popis
This data set comprises the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps in Portable Document Format (.PDF) for the shoreline of East Florida (to encompass the coastal areas from the Florida/Georgia border to Boca Raton, Florida). ESI data characterize coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats; sensitive biological resources; and human-use resources. This Atlas was compiled from geographical and biological data collected from 1950-1990s; the intertidal habitats were mapped during aerial and ground surveys conducted in May, 1993, and biological and human-use resources data were compiled by regional biologists in 1995. The dates for the original data vary and are completely documented in within the included FGDC metadata file "METADATA.PDF" and document "INTRO.PDF". An associated data set, Environmental Sensitivity Index Atlas (ESI) Florida 1995-1997 Digital Data Re-Release is available as NODC Accession 0014187.
