The NOAA Composite Shoreline is primarily intended for high-resolution cartographic representation of the shoreline. It is a high-resolution vector shoreline based on a multi-temporal collection of NOAA coastal survey maps (T-sheets). Where T-sheets were unavailable, NOAA's extracted vector shoreline (EVS) was used to compile seamless shoreline coverage.

Popis

Oceanographic station data were collected from the CAMPBELL within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station D (4400N 4100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 08 November 1971 to 30 November 1971. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Oceanographic Station Data (SD2) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/sd2.html. The Oceanographic Station Data format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

This dataset has quarterly Latent Heat Flux data from the TAO/TRITON (Pacific Ocean, http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/), RAMA (Indian Ocean, http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/rama/), and PIRATA (Atlantic Ocean, http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/pirata/) arrays of moored buoys which transmit oceanographic and meteorological data to shore in real-time via the Argos satellite system. These buoys are major components of the CLIVAR climate analysis project and the GOOS, GCOS, and GEOSS observing systems. Quarterly data is an average of monthly values collected during a 3 month period. A minimum of 2 monthly values are required to compute a quarterly average. The drifting buoy data in this accession was collected over a one month period from bouys deployed by National Data Buoy Center, Stennis Space Center, MS in TOGA Area-Pacific (30 N to 30 S). The data was collected as part of Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere project from August 1, 1990 to August 31, 1990. The water depth and other drifting bouy data submitted by Mr. Eric A. Meindl has been processed by NODC and is currently available in F156 Drifting Buoy file format.

NOAA's Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) Beach Watch Program, administered by the Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association (FMSA), is a long-term monitoring program operating within GFNMS and NOAA's Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary along the California coast. An objective of the program is to develop baseline information on the organisms inhabiting the sanctuaries and on the physical characteristics of the sanctuaries. To achieve this objective, Beach Watch volunteers have taken photographic slides of animals (both alive and dead) and beach profiles during surveys of over fifty sanctuary beaches every two to four weeks since 1993. As part of a "data rescue" effort, GFNMS, FMSA, and NOAA's National Oceanographic Data Center and Climate Database Modernization Program have sponsored a project to scan Beach Watch's photographic slides and create high-resolution TIFF and Web-accessible JPEG images for the public. This collection is part of the project, which Jan Roletto of GFNMS coordinated for FMSA, and it contains images from surveys of Doran Beach (segment 1-06), California from 2001-03-30 to 2002-01-18.

Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts from the AMERICAN ARGO from 12 May 1973 to 18 June 1973. Data were collected by Moore-McCormack Lines Inc. as part of the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''''inflection points'''') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of 450 m or 760 m. Special instruments permitted measurements to 1830 m.

This data set provides (1) delta 15N ratios and nitrogen concentrations for foliar samples and (2) delta 13C and delta 15N ratios as well as carbon and nitrogen concentrations for soil samples collected from cerrado sites within the Ecological Reserve of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistic (IBGE), Brasilia, Brazil. Foliar samples, collected from 320 individuals representing 45 woody tree and shrub species, and soil samples were collected from 5 cerrado locations (2 in campo sujo, 2 in cerrado denso and 1 in cerrado). Soil samples were collected to 450 cm depth in the campo sujo and 800 cm depth elsewhere. Samples were collected during the period December 1999 to September 2000. Eiten (1972) described campo sujo as an open savanna with scattered trees and shrubs, cerrado sensu stricto as a savanna woodland with abundant evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs and an herbaceous understory, and cerrado denso as medium to tall woodlands with closed or semiclosed canopies (Bustamante et al., 2004).There are two comma-delimited data files with this data set.
