This project is a cooperative effort among the National Ocean Service, National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment; the University of Hawaii; and Analytical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLC. The goal of the work was to develop coral reef mapping methods and compare benthic habitat maps generated by photointerpreting georeferenced color aerial photography, hyperspectral and IKONOS satellite imagery. The enhanced spectral resolution of hyperspectral and control of bandwidths of multispectral data yield an advantage over color aerial photography particularly when coral health and time series analysis of coral reef community structure are of interest. Depending on the type of instrument, a spectral imaging system can be utilized to see multiple colors from ultraviolet through the far infrared range. The AURORA hyperspectral imaging system collected 72 ten nm bands in the visible and near infrared spectral range with a 3 meter pixel resolution. The data was processed to select band widths, which optimized feature detection in shallow and deep water. Photointerpreters can accurately and reliably delineate boundaries of features in the imagery as they appear on the computer monitor using a software interface such as the Habitat Digitizer.

Belt transects along 2 consecutively-placed, 25m transect lines were surveyed as part of Rapid Ecological Assessments conducted at 9 sites at Baker in the Pacific Remote Island Areas (PRIAs) during 15 January - 6 February 2006 in the NOAA Hi'ialakai Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (RAMP) Cruise (HI0601). Raw survey data included species presence and relative abundance, colony counts and size classes by genus, and determination of benthic cover using the line-intercept method. Depending on colony density, 0.5 or 1 m on each side of the transect lines was included in the belt (for a total of 25-100m2 per site).

NODC Accession 0112248 includes chemical, discrete sample, physical and profile data collected from NATSUSHIMA in the North Pacific Ocean from 2003-07-05 to 2003-07-18 and retrieved during cruise 49NB20030705 and NT03-07. These data include ALKALINITY, AMMONIUM, DISSOLVED INORGANIC CARBON, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, NITRATE, NITRITE, PHOSPHATE, SALINITY, SILICATE, WATER TEMPERATURE and pH. The instruments used to collect these data include CTD, Coulometer for DIC measurement and bottle. These data were collected by Nobuo Tsurushima of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and Hajime Kawakami of Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (Jamstec) as part of the PACIFICA_49NB20030705 data set. PACIFICA (PACIFic ocean Interior CArbon) was an international collaborative project for the data synthesis of ocean interior carbon and its related parameters in the Pacific Ocean. The North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES), Section of Carbon and Climate (S-CC) supported the project.

Temperature profile and other data were collected from multiple ships from June 1, 2000 to November 29, 2000. Data were submitted by Marine Environmental Data Service (MEDS) as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), Gulf of Mexico NOAA/NMFS Ship of Opportunity (SOOP), and Global Temperature - Salinity Pilot Project (GTSSP) projects. Data were collected using moored buoy, profiling floats, TAO buoy, and XBT casts in a world-wide distribution.

Using a LH Systems ALS50 Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) system, flight lines of standard density (1.4 meter ground sample distance) data were collected over areas in Matagorda County, TX (approximately 1139 square miles). Multiple returns were recorded for each laser pulse along with an intensity value for each return. The data acquisition occurred in 6 missions between April 9, 2006, April 16, 2006, April 17, 2006, May 11, 2006 through May 13, 2006. The data was collected by Sanborn Mapping Company, Inc. for the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20120427 - 20120511. The images were acquired with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution than the final ortho-rectified mosaic.
